Location: South Pacific Ocean, midway between Hawaii and Australia.

Capital: Funafuti

Tourist Attractions: The small country of Tuvalu that gained independence in 1978 comprises of nine islands in total and has some pretty islets and atolls. Major tourist attractions are: The Funafula Islet with its great sandy beach, the Nanumea atoll having a fresh-water pond and some plane and ship wrecks and the Nukulaelae Atoll with its pre-Christian archaeological site. Tourists also love visiting the Funafuti Marine Conservation Area that has six uninhabited islets full of lush broadleaf forest along with an abundance of tropical fish. Idyllic beaches and lagoons and opportunities for water sports are the other attractions of Tuvalu, though its receives few tourists due to its remote location.  

Access: The international airport at Funafuti receives direct flights from Fiji. There are also some yachts that cruise around Tuvalu.

Climate: The climate is tropical but moderated by easterly trade winds with constant temperatures of 25-30°C throughout the year along with rainfall. Some islands receive more rainfall between October and April.
