Tourist Attractions: The contrasting influences of Chinese, Malay and Indian traditions have made Singapore a unique place to explore. The Sri Mariamman Temple, the oldest Hindu temple in Singapore built in 1823 is famous with tourists for its pretty deities and the devotees who walk barefoot over burning coals during the Thimithi festival. The Arab Street is the Muslim centre of Singapore and a great place to go shopping and view the grand Sultan Mosque and Jama-ath Mosque. Other tourist attractions include the Asian Civilisations Museum that showcases the different aspects of Asian and Peranakan culture, apart from Chinese ceramics and Buddhist artifacts and the Bukit Timah National Reserve, which is just perfect for nature walks and jungle treks. The Changi Village with its beaches, the Changi Prison used during the Second World War and the Changi Chapel and museum are also frequented by tourists.
Access: Singapore has ferry services with Indonesia and Malaysia and its world-acclaimed Changi Airport receives international flights from all over. There are also bus links between Malaysia and Singapore.
