Tourist Attractions: New Caledonia is a dependent overseas territory of France that has great attractions for both nature and adventure lovers. The Parc de la Rivière Bleue is a haven for nature lovers and home to exotic bird species including the cagou. The black limestone cliffs of Lindéralique have a famous rock formation called the La Poule de Hienghène, which is popular tourist spot. Another well-known tourist spot is Grotte d'Oumagne-the caves where Queen Hortense was supposed to have hidden during the tribal wars in 1855 and 1856 and a great place for spelunking.

Access: New Caledonia receives direct flights from France, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and a few other countries. Many cruise liners make New Caledonia a port-of-call while sailing through the Pacific.

Climate: The climate is hot and humid in general, and the months between February and May are liable to receive more rainfall than the rest. Occurrence of tropical cyclones is also a possibility.
