Location: Eastern Caribbean, bordering the Caribbean Sea, southeast of Puerto Rico

Capital: Plymouth

Tourist Attractions: Montserrat is a lovely volcanic island nation in the Caribbean, famous for its still active volcanoes, black sandy beaches and lush tropical forests. Montserrat is an excellent destination for beach holidays, water sports, eco-tourism and volcano viewing. Tourist attractions in Montserrat include the Montserrat Volcano Observatory (commonly known as the MVO), Rendezvous Bay, housing the only white sand beach in Montserrat; Soufrière Hills Volcano (offering a spectacular sight, best enjoyed through a helicopter trip), Chances Peak (highest peak at 915m); Pelican Point, home to the spectacular Frigate birds; St John's, a tiny village now the de facto capital of island, the scenic Garibaldi Hill; and Runaway Ghaut, an exceptionally beautiful spring. Visitors can also enjoy a number of exciting beach and water sports.

Access: Montserrat has no international airport and Antigua is the nearest international gateway. Helicopter services operate to and from the island to Antigua. Antigua is well connected by air with many destinations in Europe and USA. High-speed ferry service also operates regular services between Little Bay in Montserrat and Heritage Quay in Antigua.

Climate: Montserrat enjoys a sub-tropical type of climate with little seasonal temperature variation, tempered by trade winds. It receives heavy rainfalls between September and November.
