Location: North Asia, landlocked between China and Russia.

Capital: Ulaanbaatar

Tourist Attractions: Mongolia is famous as the land of Genghis Khan, a Mongolian invader who annexed a large part of the Eurasian empire in the 13th century. Nowadays the most popular tourist destinations of Mongolia are the monasteries at Amarbayasgalant Khiid built in 1737 and dedicated to the Mongolian Buddhist and sculptor, Zanabazar. Tourists also visit the Shiliin Bogd, which is the highest peak in the Sükhbaatar Aimag region. The peak offers excellent views of volcanic craters. The Tavanbogd National Park, housing many archaeological sites, provides excellent wildlife as well as opportunities for rafting trips. The capital of Mongolia is also visited for its ‘four holy peaks’, its amazing grasslands, bird and animal life, and hiking trails.

Access: The capital city of Ulaanbaatar is linked by direct flights to China, Germany, Russia, Japan and Korea. One can also cross the borders at Ereen-Zamyn-Üüd on the Chinese-Mongolian border, and Naushki-Sükhbaatar on the Russian-Mongolian border to enter Mongolia. The Trans-Mongolian Railway links Mongolia with Beijing and Moscow.

Climate: The Mongolian climate is quite extreme in nature. The winters can get very harsh with temperatures dipping to -30°C. The summer evenings are also cool, because of the high altitude. The spring season from May to June can witness dust storms while from mid-July to September, Mongolia receives short bursts of rainfall.
