Over 85 per cent of Guyana’s area is covered with dense forests and savanna grasslands. The country also has over 1, 600 km of navigable rivers, promising visitors unlimited water sports activity. Major tourist attractions in Guyana include the capital city of Georgetown, famous for its 19th century wooden houses, Natural History Museum and amazing Botanical Gardens; Rupununi, an enchanting oasis in the desert; Kaieteur Falls, Kaieteur National Park, Iwokrama Rain Forest, Almond Beach, and Shell Beach. Visitors can also enjoy a range of activities like nature trekking, horse riding, fishing, hiking and whitewater rafting.
Access:There are no direct flights to Guyana from Europe. Many airlinesoperate regular flights to Cayenne in French Guiana, from where connecting flights are made to Georgetown. Ferry services are available between Guyana and the Caribbean islands but with an erratic schedule. Regular buses also connect Georgetown with Boa Vista (Brazil).
Climate: Guyana experiences a hot and humid tropical climate all year round, moderated by northeast trade winds. It experiences heavy to moderate rainfall most of the year. The country has two rainy seasons, from May to August and November to January.
