Tourist Attractions: Fiji, an archipelago of over 300 islands, gained independence from British rule in 1970 but has gone through three military coups since then. Currently a democratic government administers the country. The Fijian islands are popular with tourists for their beautiful coral reefs and splendid beaches that provide many opportunities for snorkeling and scuba diving. Among places of historic interest, the National Museum and the old Parliament Buildings are a must see. Visits to the Cultural Center at Orchid Island, the earthworks at Taveuni and Colo-i-Suva Forest Park are also popular. Adventurous tourists can go hiking and trekking. Access: Fiji can be reached by air by flights to and from Nadi International Airport. There is another airport at Suva.
Climate: The climatic conditions generally remain tropical marine in nature and the temperatures vary a little with the seasons. The winters can be prone to tropical cyclonic storms.
