Location: Eastern Africa, along the shore of the Red Sea, bordering Ethiopia, Djibouti and Sudan.

Capital: Asmara

Tourist Attractions: Eritrea gained independence from Ethiopia in 1993. It is famous for its beautiful islands, clean beaches, ancient archeological sites, and amazing colonial architecture. Asmara, the capital city, is known for its unique colonial charm, which is clearly visible in its architecture. The magnificent Lombardian style Cathedral is a must visit in Asmara. Major tourist destinations in Eritrea include the beautiful cities of Asmara, Massawa, Emberemi, Keren, and Akordat. Tourist attractions of Eritrea include Batsi Island, Sheikh Said Island (also known as Isola Verde), Gergussum Beach, Tomb of Said Mustafa wad Hasan (Akordat), and archeological sites at Adulis, Qohaito, Metera and Rora Habab.

Access: Eritrea is well connected by air with various destinations in Europe, Middle East and USA. Regular flights operate between Asmara and Cairo (Egypt), Frankfurt, Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), Khartoum (Sudan) and Sanaa (Yemen). Flights from other destinations in Europe and USA are also available. There is also a weekly ferry service from Massawa to Jeddah.

Climate: Eritrea enjoys a typical mixed climate. While the coastal region experiences hot and dry climate, the central highlands remain cooler and wetter. The country has three seasons- summer season (April to August), winter season (December to February) and the rainy season (March to April) and (June to September).
