Location: South East Asia, on the Eastern half of the Island of Timor, at the eastern end of the Lesser Sunda Islands in the Indonesian archipelago, northwest of Australia.

Tourist Attractions: East Timor gained independence from Indonesia in May 2002. With splendid beaches, mountain ranges and colonial-style towns, East Timor has seen a steady influx of tourists. The fishing village of Com is a popular tourist spot and offers great opportunities for fishing, snorkeling and diving. Other attractions include the Maubara Fort, built during Portuguese colonial times, and the coral reefs off the coastal town of Oecussi.
Access: Flights from Bali (Indonesia) and Darwin (Australia) to East Timor, operate on a regular basis. If traveling by road, the border crossing with Indonesia is at Motain. There are no ferry services as yet.
Climate: East Timor has noticeable rainy and dry seasons. The climate remains tropical in nature for most of the year and is hot and humid.
