Location: Eastern Africa, along the Gulf of Aden coast, at the beginning of the Horn of Africa.

Capital: Djibouti

Tourist Attractions: Djibouti attracts few tourists, which means unimpeded sightseeing for
those who make the trip. A starkly beautiful landscape, African wildlife, and bustling markets are some of Djibouti’s attractions. Djibouti’s lakes, Lac Assal, Lac Goubet and Lac Abbé are fascinating sights, with flocks of flamingos, strange lava formations and natural chimneys spouting steam over the flat landscape. In the capital Djibouti, tourists can ride on pleasure boats or traditional dhows or visit Le Marché Central (the Central Market) where sprigs of gat, a stimulant imported from Ethiopia, are sold daily. Don’t miss the scenic beaches at Doralé and Khor-Ambado. Djibouti's oldest town, Tadjoura, and deep sea diving in the Red Sea, are other attractions of Djibouti.

Access: Many airlines such as Djibouti Airlines, Yemenia, Ethiopian Airlines, Air Tanzania, Air France, Aeroflot and the charter company Corsair operate flights to Djibouti. Travel by road from Eritrea and by road and rail from Ethiopia, is possible. Traveling by sea to or from Djibouti is not likely. Do not cross the border into Somalia, it is not safe.
