Location: Central Africa, neighboring countries include Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Tanzania, and bordering Lake Tanganyika.

Capital: Bujumbura

Tourist Attractions: The civil war that spanned 12 years has nearly ended even though, sporadic clashes between government and rebel forces are not uncommon. The capital city is mostly under curfew. The country does have some great places for sightseeing like the Musée Vivant that is actually a reconstructed traditional Burundian village holding exhibitions on baskets, pottery and drums and La Pierre de Livingstone et Stanley that is supposed to the site of the historic meeting between Dr Livingstone and Henry Stanley. The Rusizi National Park is also an enjoyable experience with its hippos, sitatungas and a variety of birds.

Access: Burundi has direct flights from Ethiopia and Kenya and a bus service with Rwanda. There is also a ferry service with Tanzania.

Climate: Burundi experiences hot days and cool nights. June to September are the hottest and the driest months.
