Tourist Attractions: Traveling in Botswana is a thrilling adventure as a large part of the country consists of a wilderness of desert, savanna, wetlands and salt flats. Botswana is a safari destination for the wealthy traveler. Backpackers will find few facilities and roughing it in Botswana is not easy. Botswana’s attractions include the Okavango Delta, formed by the Okavango River pouring into the Kalahari Desert, the Chobe and Kgalagadi National Parks, the Makgadikadi salt pans, the Mokolodi Nature Reserve and the Tsodilo Hills, known for ancient rock paintings.

Access: There are flights to Gaborone from Johannesburg, South Africa. Another alternative is to take a flight to Harare, Windhoek or Johannesburg and then travel by road to Botswana. Hired cars and regular buses ply from South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe. The Trans-Namib bus between Ghanzi and Gobabis (Namibia), and buses between Gaborone and Johannesburg, Gaborone and Francistown, Bulawayo and Harare offer overland access to Botswana.
