Location: Central South America, southwest of Brazil

Capital: La Paz (seat of government); Sucre (judicial capital)

Tourist Attractions: Civil unrest and attacks on tourists in recent years have affected tourism to Bolivia. Tourists are advised to travel in groups and take security precautions. Though one of the poorest countries in South America, Bolivia’s unique attractions attract many tourists. The cities of La Paz and Sucre, the island of Isola del Sol, sacred to the Incas, the balmy climate of Cochabamba, the site of Tihuanaco and the natural beauty of Parque Nacional Madidi, make Bolivia a place worth visiting.

Access: Bolivia is well connected by flights to Washington D.C., Miami, Madrid, Buenos Aires and other South American destinations. There are several direct flights to Bolivia from the Americas, Asia and Europe. Many tourists arrive by boat, crossing Lake Titicaca from the Peruvian port of Puno. You can also travel by road across the border from Chile.
