Location: Southern Africa, on the South Atlantic coast, between Namibia and Democratic Republic of the Congo

Tourist Attractions: The country gained independence from Portugal in 1975 and suffered a 27-year long civil war, which ended in 2002. It has been peaceful since then. Tourist attractions in Angola include the cities of Luanda, Benguela and Lobito. Angola is known for diamonds, its beautiful coastline and local handicrafts. Handicrafts include jewelry, batik dyed cloth and sculpture. Malaria is endemic in Angola so take adequate precautions against mosquitoes. 
Do not travel after dark and take basic precautions with regard to food and water. Knowing Portuguese will help you communicate with the local people, since English is not widely spoken.

Access: There are flights to the capital Luanda from Johannesburg, Windhoek and Harare. You can also fly from London, Paris and Addis Ababa. There are no railroad links between Angola and other nations. By road the best route is from Namibia at the border post near Oshikango(Namibia)/Ngiva(Angola).
