Indies Airways, BWIA was founded in 1940, and for more than 60
years has been serving the Caribbean islands from Trinidad and
Tobago, the hub of the Americas, linking the twin island republic
and many other Caribbean islands with North America, South America,
the United Kingdom and Europe.
It is one of the largest airlines operating out of the Caribbean,
and boasts an enviable safety record among its peers.BWIA's
international gateways are New York, Washington, Miami, Toronto,
Manchester and London, with service to and from Trinidad, Tobago,
Barbados, St. Lucia, Jamaica, Antigua, St. Maarten, Guyana and,
Suriname. With partner airlines, connections are available through
these gateways to and from many other North American cities,
including Boston; with Air India, for example, BWIA offers flights
between the Caribbean and India via London or New York.
BWIA presently has ticketing agreements with a number of smaller
Caribbean carriers. This supports the island commuter service from
hubs in Antigua and Barbados. Its main base is Piarco International
Airport (POS), Port of Spain, with a hub at Grantley Adams
International Airport (BGI).
