- Malév Hungarian Airlines , the national air carrier of
the Republic of Hungary has been operating for well over half a
century. The company celebrated the 58th anniversary of its
foundation on 29, March 2004. Today it's ranked as one of the
leading airlines of the Central-Eastern European region, with
scheduled passenger, cargo and charter services. In the summer of
1992, Malév was transformed into a joint-stock company wholly
owned by the Hungarian state, municipalities and employees. On 15
December 1992, 35% of the shares moved into Italian ownership:
Alitalia purchased a 30% stake in Malév, and the investment
company Simest a 5% share. A company (Air Invest Kft.) founded by
two Hungarian banks, Magyar Külkereskedelmi Bank Rt. and OTP
Bank Rt., bought out the Italian stakes on 15 December 1997, and
then in August 1999 the state property agency ÁPV Rt.
repurchased these shares. At present the Malév ownership
structure is as follows: ÁPV Rt.: 99.95 % Minor shareholders:
0.05% On 31 December 2003 the company had 2830 employees.Malév
has representative offices and general sales agents in 35 countries
around the world. Despite CSA Czech Airlines' offer to sponsor
Malév as an associate member of the SkyTeam Alliance, and
Malév's codesharing agreements with a number of SkyTeam
carriers, the airline chose to join oneworld as a full
member.Malév will join the oneworld alliance at the turn of
2006 and 2007.
